Star Night and Cherry Pit raced after him.

Snow felt the earth begin to slip. The wall moved, and she reared, and jumped the wall. She heard the humans. They had to run. Kiola was close behind her.

Knight jumped out of the stables. Horses were running, a few getting over the gate, more caught by the humans. They weren't coming his way, yet. They were slow, stuck at the door. Knight raced, and with one desperate start, lept over the wall. He landed, and bolted after Snow, hoping Cherry and Star were close behind.

Rainwater couldn't make the leap.She tried and fell.Storm fought off a human near them.

Star Night and Cherry arced together over the wall and raced on.

Rainwater's blood oozed out of another wound,from her head.It trickled out her mouth and her last words were,"Go.Storm,I love you.Go."Then she died.Storm looked around,tears forming in his eyes.Then they dried,he saw a human pointing a gun at him.He killed them.Then leapt the wall and ran.

Shadow Knight stopped when he caught up with Snow Crystal. Only Kiola and Simi was still with her. The rest of the horses that had been with her had run the other way. Knight looked back for Star, Cherry, Storm, and Rainwater.

Soie pricked his ears, and gave Twilight a look. Twilight looked at the sky. The rain now fell on his fur. Azane sighed, though it was lighter under the tall grass. Twilight nodded to Soie, and he walked off, and Twilight looked at Wind,"There is heavy rain ahead. We need to move. Are you ready?"

Soie crept through the tall grass. He saw a few horses ahead. These must have escaped from the humans. He sat in the grass, waiting.

Storm cantered up beside Shadow Knight.His once dull eyes had life in them.A spark.As if another horses strength had joined his.His once dull coat was shiny,the water rinsing it of dirt,but blood still showed on his back left foot,the place where the white spot was was red,then was rinsed clean.His face was expressionless,and hard.

Star Night and Cherry joined them.

Snow asked,"Where is Rainwater? Wasn't she coming with you?" Shadow Knight counted those horses that were there with him. There 7, including himself. He needed to find a wild herd, one that would be better at defending them than he could.

Soie pricked his ears to listen. He looked at one of the stallions. He had heard Azane muttering about a stallion like this on, and two of the mares seemed similar to Azane's talk. Maybe these were from Wind and Azane's old herd. He waited, and watched.

Storm shook his head."She won't be joining us."

Star Night pricked his ears,he heard a small sound,like grass rustling.He nudged Cherry and she pricked her ears as well.

Wind looked back,"Azane,its....Its....Star Night and Cherry Pit!!!!"

Azane turned and looked the way Soie had gone. She saw the horses, and recognized Star and Cherry as they would have been in a normal horse form. She smiled, and raced over to them. Twilight leapt to his feet, and followed. She relized Simi was with them too, and her sister in law raced up to greet her.

Wind smiled at them."Star Night.Cherry."He bowed his head."It's felt wrong being the leader."He told Star Night."Im glad you're here,you can take it back."

Star Night shook his head,"No Wind.You are the leader.Look,what do you see,and how do you feel when you look at them?"

Wind looked at each one in turn."I feel...Protective.I need to be faster,stronger,more cunning.I have to protect them..."He looked back at Star Night.Accepting it.

Star Night nodded."That's the way it should be.I don't feel that anymore.I only feel love and protectiveness over Cherry.Not as strong anyway.Not the burning desire to protect them,and help them."

Cherry smiled at Azane and Wind."Azane!Wind!"

Breeze raced up behind and launched herself at Cherry."Cheewy!!!"

Cherry was taken aback,she tried to stop Breeze from falling.But Breeze fell on her backside and started laughing.

Storm looked at all the horses,and wolves.His face was blank,and he felt nothing.No saddnes,no happines,no pain,or regret.

Azane nuzzled Cherry and Simi both in turn,"Oh, I am so glad to see you!"

Twilight sat down by Soie, and looked at the other horses.

Snow Crystal stood by Shadow Knight. She felt happy for these horses, being reunited.

Kiola looked at Breeze, he thought she was cute.

Breeze smiled at everyone,then stood up."Hello...Im Breeze."She smiled at Kiola.

Cherry grinned.

Simi said,"Oh, this is Shadow Knight, and Snow Crystal. They helped us get out of the humans' hold. And these two brave colts joined us, Storm, and Kiola."

Wind nodded."Hello.I have a question for you.If you want to.....Would you like to join our herd?"

Storm glanced at Wnd.Although the spark still shone in his eyes,he was dull.

Snow nodded, she liked Simi, and she needed a place to go now that she was free. Shadow Knight nodded,"Thank you." Kiola smiled, hoping this offer was allowed to him as well.

"For all of you.I would be happy if all if you joined us."Wind smiled.

Storm nodded bluntly.

Kiola almost jumped, and bucked, but he kept some self diginaty. Twilight stood up, and sadly ruined the mood,"I'm know you are all happy to see each other, but they just got away from the humans, to really think they aren't going to be following?" Azane sighed, sadly, he had a point.

Scorn reared,and leapt the other way,his human pushing him to other horses.He raced forward.

Twilight growled,"I hear humans. We have to go, now." Azane listened, and sure enough she heard humans, riding. Azane looked at the horses. Shadow Knight's stomach was bleeding, but he said,"I can run, just lead the way." Azane looked at Twilight, who started to head towards the forest. He was pacing, and soon vanished from sight.

Wind told them,"Go!Now!"He pushed them in front of him after Twilight.

Azane raced after Twilight, Breeze at her side. She heard Simi behind her, gaurding Kiola who raced beside her. Snow was next to Simi, and Shadow raced behind the two mares. Wind Spirit raced up beside Azane, and Azane heard Soie's foot fall behind Wind.

Star Night and Cherry raced to the front with Twilight.

Wind raced forward running fast.

Twilight ran long and hard. He was tire less. He glanced back every once and a while, to make sure that the herd was still behind. Finally, after running till sunset, the birch trees rose on the horizon, and Twilight put forth a final burst of speed into the safety of the white trees. He spotted about a mile into the woods, and fell. Azane came close behind, and sheltered Kiola and Breeze as they fell from their exhastion. Simi was leaning on Snow, and Shadow when she got there. Soie and Spirit were lieing by Twilight now, and the cool night set in.

Scorn was breathing hard,but he tried to keep going.

Wind arrived there a moment later.

Twilight nodded to Soie, and the leopard took his spot. Twilight got up, and raced back to the edge of the woods. He heard the humans far behind. Then, there was shadow. Twilight grew and grew, his body growing ever darker, and larger. Finally, his shadow cast out across the plains, and a fire leapt from the ground about the humans and their horses. Twilight shrunk again, and was, once more, a winged wolf.

Azane, shaken by the darkness that had come over the woods, asked Soie,"Was that Twilight?" Soie nodded his head soloemly,"Indeed. When you passed by the river, you faced a monster beyond your skill. I dare not metion its name here in these woods, but it is fell, and of much evil. It's power is purely shadow, and it can take any shape it wishes. But any who are scarred by it carry it power. That is why Twilight, Spirit, and I travel together. We all passed through the river dell together, and were scarred together." Azane nodded, but then like some memory chanced to come to her mind, she looked at Wind,"Didn't it scar you, Wind?" Her eyes were filled with worry and fear.

Wind nodded,and showed them his back left leg.
