The Last Stand (PG-13)

Bambi scoffed.
"Oh yeah. cause I just have eight legs, don't I?" saracsm seeped from her voice as she rolled her eyes.

"Sixteen to be exact."Meca teased her.

Bambi giggled.
"How'd you figure?" she asked, bemused, "Aren't there four legs on each side?"

"Nope.Two out of your head,seven on each side.And on on your nose."He teased her.

Bambi rolled her eyes, smirking.
"Oh, har har har." she said in mock enthusiasm.
"You're just hilarious."

Meca chuckled.

Bambi rolled her eyes, snickering. She looked out at the scenery, her eyes suddenly narrowing, as if trying to pick out something blurred.
"What's that?" Bambi asked, pointing toward a white puff ball, presumably an animal, about fifty feet away.

Arella lied against the floor, wounded, and gasping in her breaths. She felt horrible. She shouldn't have gone and disturbed hunters during their little slaughter. The wolf looked around, trying to blend in, and failing miserably.

Meca stopped Nona,and jumped off the gray mare.She stood still,and he pulled his sword out,he made his way cautiously towards the injured wolf.

The blind wolf's ears pricked and she darted her head in whatever direction, knowing footsteps were near. Her breathing had become jagged and her heat hammered rapidly in her chest. She tried to stand and run, in fear for it being another hunter, but she just fell down against the ground.

Meca leapt lightly forward,putting a knee just below the jaw.To hold her down,also so she wouldn't injure herself."Easy girl,easy."He put a open palm on her,and thought images of calmness,like a a babbling brook,and so on.It was a technique he had learned a while back.

Arella's ears picked up on a voice as an eerie calm set over her.
'Who are you?' she asked nervously, afraid this was another hunter.

Bambi stood back by the horse, watching Meca deal with the animal. If something were to happen, she would jump in and help.

"I am Meca.A traveler on this path of life.Who are you?"He asked,sending her a thought.

'Greetings Meca. I am Arella, traveling amongst the woodlands. I was wounded by a group of hunters.' she explained. Slowly, a look of horror crossed over her face and her unseeing eyes widened.
'Have you been sent by these hunters?'

"Hello Arella.I doubt anyone has seen us.We would just look like a bunch of people moving along."He took his knee off her neck.

Arella tried to rise again, but ended up falling back, harder. She turned her face to the ground, panting quietly.
'Please. I am in need of assistance.'

"Im sorry.This will hurt."Then he lifted her,as gently as possible,and walked back to his horse.He set her up on Nona's back,then looked at Bambi.Asking her to make sure that the wolf didn't fall off.Nona was edgy,but did what she was told.Walking smoothly beside Meca.

The blind wolf winced slightly as she was set down. Her ears pricked to catch soft breathing. Feminine breathing. She felt a hand smooth down and rub her coat, and she closed her eyes. Arella allowed herself to relax.

Although hesitant, Bambi began to pet the white wolf, trying to soothe her. She smiled softly.

Meca smiled to himself at Bambi.She seemed happy.Like she and the wolf belonged together.

Okie shrugged,"Yes. Come on." He extended his hand a bit more.

Nileve landed soon, because Ikica had woken up. Nileve spied the injured wolf, its white coat standing out. She round up, and look at it,"Poor thing, what happened?"

Arella's ears pricked up as she heard a new voice. Asking what had happened to her.
'I was injured by hunters.' she answered NIleve through thought. She had a problem of doing that, sometimes. When someone would ask a question about her, she would answer it, and leave them baffled that she could understand and speak back.

Bambi scratched the wolf behind the ear and shrugged, unknowing that she could communicate.

Nileve, having talked to animals often, replied,"I'm sorry. If I had the room, I might be able to heal you, I have some skills with that in magic, but I think Lily would be better at it, she knows plants that would work better than my magic. If you would let her, she could tend to your wounds."

Mero bounded through the forest,a rabbit clutched in his maw.He skidded to a stop at seeing humans,his eyes going wide.He suddenly disappeared,but forgot about the rabbit,so now it looked like a floating and bloody rabbit.

Remos trotted through the forest,and ran into the invisible white lion.THUMP,he fell on his haunches,and looked surprised at the air in front of him.

Twilight race throught the woods, his wings tucked up against his side. He couldn't find his lady! He cried through the woods,"LADY WOLF! Where have you gone?" In truth, he had been stalking Lady Wolf, and had not actually joined her, guarding her in the night. He bound up into a tree, and let out a solemn howl into the world. He sniffed the air, and thought...maybe faintly...he caught her scent. Bounding out of the tree limb, he cast his glistening white wings out, and gliding in the breeze. When finally the breeze could carry him no more, he landed in a feild, and raced on, his powerful legs carrying him faster and farther with each bound. He stopped suddenly, scenting another scent. With a growl, he spite out,"Felines." He turned his head, and followed the scent.

Mero turned with a growl."Canine."His muscles rippled under his shiny white fur as he crept forward.He dropped the hare into a brush,and turned completly invisible,his big paws making no sound as he crept over the leaves,and stepped over fallen branches.

Remos crept silently beside the big lion,his steel hard muscles also moving silently under his black and white coat.

Twilight raised his head, and sniffed. He listened hard, and he could tell where the big cats were. He brought his wings in, wrapping them around himself. They burst into a swarm of shadows, and when he lifted his head, he was purely shadow magic. His eyes were so much keener now, and he could see the invisible lion. He growled, and prepared to jump.
